Our take

  • This is a day-one list. We ranked the 13 Adventurers from the official class, weapon and skill descriptions, not from hours of hunting, so read the order as a starting point.
  • Our advice for now: start with a ranged Adventurer such as Madelyn or Luka, and fill your three squadmate slots so that at least one of them brings team protection. Madelyn's spores and Arkaya's shield, which covered the whole squad in the closed beta tests, are the two we would look at first. Now that the game is live, both get a recheck.

How we rank Monster Hunter Outlanders adventurers

Squad value
What the Adventurer adds to a squad of four. Solo, you control one Adventurer and three AI squadmates fight beside you, so we score what those three add. Online, we expect each player to control their own Adventurer, which is not confirmed yet. Shields and buffs count, and so does helping the group land a Co-Op Skill on one monster part.
Safety and forgiveness
Every Adventurer can Perfect Evade, so we look past it. Range, blocking and other defensive tools score here because they make a mistake cost less.
Reliable damage
Whether the damage shows up on demand or needs setup first, such as a full energy bar, the Well-fed state, or taking hits before it pays off.

Why each adventurer is in its tier

S Recommended for almost any team or mode, thanks to on-demand protection, team buffs or safe ranged damage.

All three fit almost any team or mode. In the closed beta tests, Arkaya's shield went to every squad member. Testers in the closed beta also report low personal damage, but protecting the whole squad is worth more, so Arkaya stays in S. Madelyn boosts nearby allies, and both Bow users fight from range, so a missed dodge hurts less. Now that the game is live, we will recheck Arkaya against real hunts.

  • Arkaya: Lance Support. In the closed beta tests its shield covered the whole squad. Testers report low damage, but the shield matters more.
  • Madelyn: The only Support who buffs the squad from range, so helping never costs safety; detonated spores do the work.
  • Luka: Bow Assault with the most mobile kit on paper. Thunder-coated arrows pierce for steady damage at range.

A Strong, but each one needs the right team or a specific condition before it pays off.

All five are strong on paper, but each needs a condition met first. Pyro has to absorb hits, Haze leans on Archdemon Mode, Rhodes must charge energy, Keres has to set up enhanced follow-ups, and Ouyang Varen must build Impetus before the thrusts hit hardest.

  • Pyro: Great Sword Assault. Builds power while taking damage for very high burst, but has to get hit first.
  • Haze: Listed as Support, but the official card shows no team buff, only parries and follow-ups, so squad value needs confirming in live hunts.
  • Keres: Dual Blades Disruptor that keeps pressure on with chained combos. Its best damage needs the right skill to set up a follow-up.
  • Ouyang Varen: An Assault who fights from behind a sturdy Lance guard and builds Impetus so each thrust lands harder. Holding ground comes easy.
  • Rhodes: Hammer Assault. Different charge attacks store energy, which then goes into explosive hits.

B Works well, but another Adventurer of the same class does the job better.

Each of these four has a clear strength, but a same-class rival covers the role with less setup. Ryunosuke has to eat and reach Well-fed, while Madelyn supports allies with medicines and spores and needs no eating step. Luxheart juggles Heat stances and Pepper needs to go airborne for rapid fire, where Keres simply chains fast combos. Midori has graceful evasion, but Luka and Ouyang Varen pair Assault damage with mobility or a strong guard.

  • Ryunosuke: Long Sword Support. Eating in a set stance builds energy, and Spirit Blade only peaks once Well-fed.
  • Luxheart: Great Sword Disruptor. Heat swaps stances and some moves fire firework-style bursts, but the kit is complex.
  • Pepper: Hits hard from range; rapid fire starts airborne. Players confirm the ultimate paralyzes or pins the monster, opening a squad attack window.
  • Midori: Long Sword Assault built around slipping past attacks. On paper, the damage depends on timing more than on raw power.

C Fits a narrow playstyle: players who want agile Dual Blades and will spend stamina to fuel them.

Raya suits players who enjoy constant dodging and will trade stamina for a faster Demon Gauge. That is a narrow job. The placement is a paper judgment, not a result from play: the official card lists fewer mechanics for Raya than for Keres or Haze, the other Dual Blades users.

  • Raya: C on paper, not from play. A narrow pick for players happy to trade stamina for gauge, with a shorter card than Keres or Haze.

Full notes on the Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List

Why Support Adventurers sit at the top

Hunts in Monster Hunter Outlanders are built for a squad of four, and the Co-Op Skill shows why that matters. The whole squad draws on one shared energy pool. When one Adventurer triggers the skill, the others have to hit the same part of the monster for it to land. That rewards a group that stays close, stays alive and attacks together.

On your own, you control one Adventurer and three more can join as automatically controlled squadmates, so Squad value is about what those three add around you. Our Monster Hunter Outlanders best team page builds full squads from that idea. In online co-op we expect each player to control their own Adventurer, but no source has confirmed that yet.

A Support kit fits that pattern. Madelyn’s spores boost Madelyn and nearby allies, so their value grows with every teammate in range. A pure damage dealer mostly raises one number: their own. A team buff raises everyone’s and helps keep the squad standing long enough to set up the next Co-Op Skill.

Arkaya is a different case. The official skill video shows a full-Resolve blow that grants a large shield, but it does not say who receives it. Player videos from the closed beta tests fill that gap: when Arkaya gained a shield, every squad member gained it too, and the ultimate is one way to trigger it. Testers in the closed beta also report that Arkaya’s own damage is low and that the gear that helps arrives late. The same tests also confirm that Arkaya raises affinity for the whole party. Arkaya stays in S because shielding the whole squad is worth more than the missing personal damage. Now that the game is live, we will recheck that.

This also matters more as you progress. Your Ecological Rank climbs over the course of the adventure and the monsters get stronger with it, so a spare shield or buff becomes more valuable in later hunts, not less.

What changes for solo players

Playing solo does not mean hunting alone. You control one Adventurer, and three more fight beside you as automatically controlled squadmates, so on paper a team buff or shield still reaches all four Adventurers in the squad, AI squadmates included. Pick those three for what they add around the one you control.

You can also leave the squadmate slots empty. Hunting truly alone shifts the math. A team buff that covers one Adventurer is worth less than one that covers four, so the gap between the Support picks and the rest gets smaller.

In that case, two Assault Adventurers gain the most. Luka’s mobility and piercing arrows matter more when nobody else is drawing the monster’s attention, and the Bow also leads our Monster Hunter Outlanders weapon tier list. Pyro’s burst ends fights faster when no one else is adding damage, as long as Pyro can afford the hits that power it. Arkaya’s heavy Resolve strike still lands when nobody else is around, and Madelyn’s spores still buff the Adventurer who places them. If you are new to the series, our list of the best Adventurers for beginners ranks the same 13 by how forgiving they are.

What we will update after launch

Servers opened on October 28, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (October 29 in Asia) in North America, Japan and Europe, all at the same moment. This list targets Monster Hunter Outlanders version 1.0.9 and rests on the official class, weapon and skill descriptions. We have not graded anyone on real hunts yet, and the full method is in how we rank Monster Hunter Outlanders Adventurers.

That will change. Once people have time with each kit, we will check the questions this list leaves open: whether Arkaya’s squad shield works at launch the way it did in the closed beta tests, how control works in online co-op, whether Pyro’s need to take damage is worth the burst, whether Ryunosuke’s Well-fed setup feels shorter in practice, and whether Raya’s stamina cost is as limiting as it looks on paper. Every move up or down goes into the changelog at the bottom of this page, with the date and the reason.

Since launch, Japanese guide sites mostly put Midori first, and some post-launch player rankings place Arkaya lower than we do. So far these are opinions with no timed or damage data behind them, so we keep the paper ranking for now. On November 1, 2026 we recheck Midori, Arkaya and Pepper, and if 2 or more independent player tests with numbers agree, from arena solo rankings or timed runs, we move the placement under our method.

Who this adventurer tier list is for

New players

Start with Madelyn or Luka. Both use the Bow, so the fight stays at range while you learn attack patterns, and Adventure Mode cuts the controls to three buttons for Attack, Evade and Burst. Luka also comes free through the launch events.

Experienced players

If you already read Monster Hunter fights well and get to choose, try Pyro or Rhodes in Classic Mode. Pyro turns hits taken into burst, and Rhodes cashes in charged energy for explosive damage.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List FAQ

Who is the best Adventurer in Monster Hunter Outlanders right now?

Arkaya, Madelyn and Luka share the top spot on our day-one list. Arkaya's shield covered the whole squad in the closed beta tests, Madelyn boosts nearby allies, and Luka deals safe ranged damage with the most mobile kit on paper.

What is the tier list of characters in Monster Hunter Outlanders?

On our day-one list, S tier is Arkaya, Madelyn and Luka; A tier is Pyro, Haze, Keres, Ouyang Varen and Rhodes; B tier is Ryunosuke, Luxheart, Pepper and Midori; and C tier is Raya. We rank all 13 Adventurers from the official kit plus a few labeled closed beta reports, so the order may change now that the game is live.

How many Adventurers are there at launch?

The official site shows 13 Adventurers. Five are Assault, four are Disruptor and four are Support. The three Buddy types, Rutaco, Trillan and Palico, are not part of this list.

Do you play as these Adventurers?

Yes. You control one Adventurer at a time, either your custom Fated Adventurer or any Adventurer you have unlocked. Three more Adventurers fight beside you as automatically controlled squadmates, and you can also hunt without them. In online co-op we expect each player to control their own Adventurer, but that is not confirmed yet.

What are the three classes?

The Adventurer classes are Assault, Disruptor and Support. Support takes two of the three S-tier spots here, mainly because team buffs like Madelyn's help every member of a four-player squad.

Which Adventurer is best for beginners?

Madelyn or Luka. Both fight with the Bow, which keeps the fight at range while you learn, and Luka comes free through the launch events. Pair either one with Adventure Mode, which maps combat to three buttons.

Is the tier list the same on every server?

Yes. The North America, Japan and Europe servers cannot team or transfer characters across regions, but we rank the official kit rather than a server, so one list covers all three.

Does any Adventurer use the Charge Blade?

No. The Charge Blade arrives at launch as the eighth weapon type, and it is meant for the Fated Adventurer. None of the 13 Adventurers on the official roster carries it.

Will this tier list change now that the game is live?

Yes. Once real hunts show how each kit performs, we will move Adventurers up or down and log every change, with the reason, at the bottom of this page.

Is Monster Hunter Outlanders a gacha game?

It is free to download with in-app purchases, and Adventurers are recruited in two rarities, SSR and SR. The first featured recruitment uses featured contracts and raises the chance for Midori, a limited SSR. A rotating recruitment uses standard contracts and boosts one standard SSR, starting with Rhodes. Launch event missions hand out items for more than 400 recruits and also bring the SSR Adventurers Luka and Pyro. The official preview does not publish rates or pity yet, so we do not guess them.

Is this an official site?

No. Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List is an unofficial player community run by a group of Monster Hunter players. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Capcom or TiMi Studio Group, and the rankings are our own judgement from the official kit.
